PL Pack

this week at willow chicago, we’re launching something new — the PL Pack. it’s a special box filled with self-contained activities intented for preschool-elementary age kids. our first series of boxes have winter activities: nativity stickerspuzzle ballsmaze pens, and winter activity books. it’s like a happy meal church box! minus the ketchup and hamburger.

the packs are intended for kids who arrive early with their parents who volunteer on sunday mornings. it’s been somewhat of a mystery knowing how to best serve these kids and parents. of course, we want a great first, early-morning experience for kids, while also honoring parents who show up ready and focused to serve. the PL Pack {PL for Promiseland} is our first attempt at offering something great for both kids and parents.

the PL Pack allows kids to stay with their parents. it doesn’t require additional volunteers to lead the children, or a specially designed children’s ministry classroom. and, it honors children because it’s quiet and fun, encouraging children to ease into the morning.

PL Packs work like this: we’ll keep a fully stocked supply in the children’s ministry storage area. any staff member can take a pack at any time {not just sunday!}, for a weekday meeting in which an adult brings his child, or a special event that requires kid activities. there’s no sign-out sheet, or asking for permission to take a pack — just take it! and, the children’s ministry will keep an eye on the quantities, ordering more when necessary. and, we’ll create seasonal boxes every few months so that activities are fresh and fun for kids. i’m excited. i think it’s got real potential.

what about you? tried anything similar?
