I resisted Pinterest for a long time. After all, I’m a guy and Pinterest is just about crafts and recipes, right? (wink, wink) Uh…not so much! I have recently discovered there is amassive Bible-reading, Bible-loving, Bible-teaching, and Bible-sharing community on Pinterest!
Before getting into my dream for the Bible and Pinterest, I’ve got to say this whole “Pinterest thing” is a bit overwhelming. (Did you just laugh at me?) I seriously almost put this post on hold for a few weeks so I could get some things ironed out before going public.
Instead, I decided to take a risk and simply let you know what I’m doing. After all, I’m sure that some of you know Pinterest backwards and forwards. So, why not put it out there and let you tell me what to do (and what I’m doing wrong)?!
More on that in a second. But first…
My Pinterest Dream
There are a ton of people sharing heaps of content about the Bible on Pinterest. Scripture verse boards. Bible devotional boards. Parenting boards. Homeschooling boards. Improve your marriage boards. Family Ministry boards. You name it, there’s a board for it!
I love that the purpose of Pinterest is to find and share content. After only a month of being active even a little, Pinterest seems very community-oriented, with sharing and generosity at the core. Love it!
Having said that, here is what I’m NOT finding (at least not nearly as much as I’d like to).
- Boards about how to study the Bible (lots of devotionals, not many “how-to”)
- Boards with Bible study tutorial videos
- Boards with Scripture storytelling (video)
- Christ-centered boards by men.
I want to change that. Sure, I want to have some boards for inspirational quotes, aword from Scripture, or something funny. But I also want to create a Pinterest “hub” of sorts where people can go to find practical resources for reading, studying, enjoying, and sharing the Word.
What do you think? Possible? Is there a need for it? Does it already exist and I’m missing it?
How YOU can help!
If you are a Pinterest junkie, here are a few ways you can help…
First – Let me know what Pinners and Boards I should be following.
Do you already know people who are sharing content about how to study and share the Bible. If so, would you let me know?
You can leave a comment, fill out the contact form, send me a message on Facebook, or simply reply to one of my weekly emails. (If you’re not getting these posts in your inbox, click here. I’ll also send you a free book!)
Second – Let me know when you find Bible content worth sharing.
I’m not only talking about Pinterest here. If you find a website, resource, video, or blog post worth sharing, let me know.
There is so much more out there than I could ever discover on my own. I want to work together with you to bring the best resources, most encouraging posts, and most practical tips to people on Pinterest.
Third – Pin these posts!
If you find something helpful here at KeithFerrin.com, would you do me a favor and Pin It?
As of today, I have put a “Pin It” button at the bottom of each post. That button will select the best image (in the most pinnable format) with the description automatically filled in for you.
Here’s an example of what it looks like…
I’m also exploring other ways to make the pinning process as simple as possible. I will be testing some of these over the next couple weeks and months. Keep a look out! (Truthfully, my desire to have all the kinks worked out is one of the reasons I almost put this post on hold for a couple weeks. Instead, I decided to put it out there and see what happens. Can I ask for grace ahead of time? )
If you’re already on Pinterest, would you check out my boards, follow the ones that interest you, and share the ones you find helpful? Thanks so much! You’ll find all my boards by clicking this handy, dandy button:
I am really excited about this! The direct link to my Pinterest Profile iswww.pinterest.com/keithferrin (in case you want to copy/paste and share it on Facebook or Twitter).
Thanks…and see you on Pinterest!
