A Word of Encouragement as You Enter the Summer

Leadership / VBS //

As you enter the summer in children’s ministry the “tired” may be descending over you already. As you attend all of the kid’s end of school programs and parties, as you are preparing for VBS and summer camps, and as many programs in the church cycle to a close, I know that children’s ministry gears up in a new way.

So I thought that a short message from God’s word might be an encouragement to you today, right where you are. For some of you this note may not reach you in May but instead you may be cleaning out emails at the end of the summer but it will still be valid then, for God’s word is always a source of encouragement.

“I thank my God in all my remembrance of you, always in every prayer of mine for you all making my prayer with joy, because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now. And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.”

(Philippians 1:3-6 ESV)

We are in partnership in the gospel whether we know each other or not, because we are teaching the next generation about Jesus.

These are the words to one of my favorite VBS songs from years ago. Maybe it sticks with me because of the message it declares. Before anything God loved you and me. The Bible tells us that even before God made the world he decided he would make you and me just the way we are.

Before the beginning, before there was time

Before there was earth and before there was sky

Before he made the mountains before he made the sea

God loved you and me.

When the “tired” completely descends on you may you rest in God’s love for you even in the midst of VBS or summer camp.

About the Author

B. A. has more than 20 years’ experience as a children’s director in churches ranging in size from 200 to 4,000 but finds her passion is the same no matter how many children she’s serving. Show the children Jesus. Teach the kids all of the Bible so they see that the stories from the Old Testament point to Jesus and that the New Testament shows how Jesus fulfilled God’s promises—yesterday, today, and forever. B. A. began her formal ministry as a children’s director and consultant in 1993, but she has taught and led music for children since she was in junior high school. She earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Tennessee and taught college until the Lord called her to seminary and full-time ministry. She graduated with a master’s degree in Christian Education from Columbia International University. Speaking at conferences, consulting with leadership, and training teachers brought her to Great Commission Publications (www.gcp.org) in 2014 as the Children’s Ministry Consultant and Marketing Coordinator.
